It was the most ridiculous thing she had ever heard of! Who in their right mind would assign detention for cursing at a slytherin? Professor Slughorn, that's who. He completely ignored the comment they made to her, but he obviously heard the comment she shot right back. Alice fumed once again at the thought as she stalked down the dark corridor. It was a little after hours and she was returng from her detention with the Potions professor. Despite the Slug Clube and his favorite studetns, Alice never really was on his good side for some reason. She just couldn't believe that he made her scrub off all the potion residue from the floor and tables using no magic at all. It was horrible and a right mess. It made her wonder why Hogwarts didn't have the house elves do that. They'd gladly oblige, but she supposed that's what detentions were for. Punishment...and what a cruel punishment it was. Wait until she told Lily all about it, maybe then she wouldn't go to that dreaded Slug Club anymore.
Coming out from the dungeons, Alice peered into the emppty corridor. It was dark, the only light coming from the dimmed candles posted along the walls. She took a deep breath as she fiddled with her locket and proceeded down the lone corridor. She passed several paintings, a majority of them were snoozing peacefully. Although, one did whisper harshly at her to stop being so loud. Alice smiled, shaking her head - she was tip toeing! How much of a noise could that make? It was extremely late and Alice just remembered that she never asked Professor Slughorn for a pass!. There was no point in going back, he'd be halfway asleep at this time. If Mrs.Norris caught her - or Filch - she'd probably have to serve another set of detentions with him. She shuddered at the thought. As Alice turned the corner to go up the stairs that led towards the Gryffindor Tower, she saw someone coming. Squinting to get a better look at who it was, she realized it was Filch. She could have kicked herself for jinxing her luck.
He was headed her way with Mrs. Norris trailing behind. Alice started to panic as she glanced up and down the corridor. Her blue eyes landed on a door left slightly ajar. Without a second thought she bolted for it. She scrambled inside and closed it softly before she leaned against it with a sigh of relief. After a few minutes passed, Alice decided to check if the coast was clear. She fumbled with the knob and opened the door wide enough to poke her head through. Glancing down one way and up the other, she saw no trace of Filch or Mrs. Norris.
